I chose to ignore the annoying "You're awesome" portion of the video and focus more on the concept of the actual song. The overtone of the song deals with the convention of karma, so I chose to make that my subject matter.

The main character is loosely based off of Howard K. Stern (who's in the original video for day 3), and revolves around the idea that sometimes losing something or, in this case, someone, can make you really appreciate the things you do have. Initially, I was going to imply that Howard K. Stern through losing Anna may obtain some money, but chose to leave that out.

I read the comments on this video, her fans as most fans refuse a sudden un-explained death..they need more.. I was like this once when Kurt Cobain took his own life. This is a video I saw that talks about the "murder" vs "sucide" theory.

To me the video looked like a journey in the car through physical and imaginary lands. The picture i carry of myself is of me at the age of 3 in our family car after a long trip. Since Im still on the "trip" looking for "my home" I chose to use a song by Fairouz about coming home VS the images of home during the war.

The original video was very fantastical, incorporating some nuances of mythology, folkore, etc. What also struck a chord with me is the fact that at the end of the video the car emerges from the Earth into an Asian culture, which evoked the expression "digging to China." So, I thought it suitable to create a video that had both fantastical as well as Asian elements.

This is my response to the most viewed video on youtube for Tuesday February 13th. I chose this video not only for the obvious thematic similarities but also because of the nostalgic imagery of which it reminded me. Like many television programs I grew up with, this clip represents a small piece of my childhood.
The Premise and Viral Obstructions v1.0
The Premise
Use youtube.com as a tool for creating an online self-portrait through video.
A) Explore the relationship between the creators and the viewers of youtube video content by “doing”, along with research and extensive journal logs.
B) Explore the idea that the youtube videos viewed are just as important as the video posts when creating a self-portrait.
The Viral Obstructions
1. Each team member views the most viewed video on youtube.com as a starting point. In our case it is “The Evolution of Dance” in the video section.
2. Each member makes a video using the original video as inspiration.
3. Each member’s video must be uploaded to youtube before 6am the following day of each weekday. Videos must be posted as video responses to the previous day’s chosen video.
4. The previous day's "most viewed" video on youtube in the video section is used as inspiration for the next day's videos.
5. The group must meet twice a week to discuss the week’s videos.
6. No communication between group members outside of meetings.
7. Videos must be less than 10 minutes in length.
8. A diary must be kept daily, outlining line of thought, concept, process and videos chosen. Research containing reasons for choosing video, reasons for creating video, a log of videos watched, and pertinent personal information should also be included.
9. Techniques that must be used at least once during the experience:
A) Original content (video blog, art work, poems, etc)
B)Appropriated content (movie clips, tv show clips, etc.)
C)Mash-up/remix
D)Talent exhibition (physical feat, magic trick, etc)
10. All final video work and written material must be compiled into a single presentation/film/performance/installation for group viewing.

Based on the "Evolution of Dance" video. Personally, I found the original video annoying and I can't really understand why it's the all-time most viewed video on YouTube. With my video I tried to reflect that absurdity. The original video also makes me think about the progression of time, something that I find particularly overwhelming. I attempted to convey that feeling as well.

Bryan-Day 1 Video
This is my first video posted on youtube. This is a video response to the very popular "Evolution of Dance" viral that has the highest number of views of all time in the 'videos' section. We like to call it "patient zero".
